We are preparing for expansion.  So, we are interested in meeting talented and dedicated people.  If you're one of them, don't hesitate to drop us a line.  You never know when a position will open up.  Here are some positions for which we have advertised before.  You can write us about one of them or about another that you think (know) is relevant.

The Job: Web Programmer

You will be the implementor of the team, taking the designs or concepts and placing them into the environment prepared by a system administrator. We usually build sites on Drupal (but not always).  You should be ready to learn everything about Drupal and teach us.

Specific Skills:

  • HTML
  • PHP
  • CSS
  • Knowledge of and interest in cross-platform: We work on/in Linux and respect Mac and Windows and whatever others are using.  Therefore we know them all.  You should, too.

Better:

  • PERL
  • PYTHON
  • Drupal
  • Ruby

Experience: More is better, but skill, knowledge and dedication can also work.  Build your career while helping to build a great company and community.

The Job: System Administrator

You prepare the environment in which the team works and  on which our customers depend.  You must be a diplomatic guide, firm where it is wise to be firm; flexible where ever it is possible.

Specific Skills:

  • Linux everything (RH, LPI, Ubuntu, Debian, Novel certs good, but not essential)
  • Open Source everything with a preference for the GPL.
  • You are comfortable with Bash and Perl, etc.
  • You like vi and vim and whatever else is fast and elegant.
  • You like Python, but may not have had time to learn it.
  • Your focus is a clean, well-organized installation with minimal clutter for maximum speed, efficiency and effectiveness.
  • You understand reality and enjoy it: Active systems develop (accrue) complexity and clutter.  You can deal with it, ameliorate the problems and plan for their resolution.  You don't really sweat it (sometimes you do, but you get over it).
  • Debian, Ubuntu, Squid, Njinx, Exim, Vexim, Apache, PHP, MySQL, Postgress, OpenVPN, FetchMail, LDAP, NFS, are your friends.
  • You may not know it all, but you learn what you need to learn quickly.
  • We love you.

The Job: Content Manager

Without you, nothing gets said or heard.  You work directly with customers on short-term projects.  You know the apps.  You could teach them if you had to do so.  If you don't know one, you learn it quickly and thoroughly.  Especially Drupal, but also heavy-hitting applications dedicated to specialized needs: office, library, classroom, mail and Web.

Specific Skills:

  • Read, Speak and Understand English enough to understand and execute needs and requests correctly.
  • Capable of correctly inputting text in English (written for you).
  • Observant and interested in correct English punctuation and grammar (you don't have to be perfect the first time, but the final version should be just right).
  • Thai-speaking is good. Capable of extending our market in Thailand through your excellent Thai skills is better.
  • Experienced in CMS work a must.
  • Experience in Drupal even better.
  • Willing and able to learn complex, specialized apps and to guide customers in learning them.
  • Willing and able to train others.

The Job: Web Designer

You are our aesthetic expert. You "know" what's beautiful intuitively, but you back it up by knowing the "rules", experience and understanding of both paper and on-line publishing. You can break the rules, too, and get away with it because you can do something better, different and surprizing. When necessary (frequently), however, you are comfortable bowing to the client's tastes, and compromising with reality (technical possibilities). Still, you gently push for what you see as a better way.

You design the interfaces for our software. You should be technically able, or willing to learn, a range of aspects of publishing and related tools and issues including color-schemes, flow, interface-usability, logos, advertisements, placement of information, appropriate media, etc.

Importantly, you are technically-savy-enough, not to worry about whether you can do your job well in a different medium. We let you use Windows or Macs for only a short time while you learn to use Linux. We want you to become an expert in The Gimp and Inkscape. We want you to be curious about and willing to take part in actually constructing Web sites and tools. If you are open to learning, this will be a good place for you.

Finally, we will be doing a lot of good old illustrating, but in new media. You will need to love and be good at drawing and painting -- on the computer if possible. This is not just a technical job.

Specific Skills:

  • Digital editing (e.g. Photoshop (c), The Gimp)
  • Vector graphics editing (Illustrator (c), Inkscape
  • FLASH and similar tools
  • CSS

Better:

  • The Gimp
  • Inkscape
  • Scribus

Experience: More is better, but talent, skill, knowledge and dedication are essential.  Come add your excellence to an excellent team.
